Crochet for a Cause!

Join us for our next Crochet workshop with Taylor Green, a TWO PART plarn and mat-making workshop. This event is $15 per person to attend and is limited to 15 participants.

This is a TWO-Part workshop:

PART 1 - Plarn Making (April 14, 5-7 pm)

What is Plarn? Plarn is yarn made from plastic - usually plastic grocery bags. It is a great way to keep your plastics out of landfills by giving the plastic a new life.In this part, we'll learn how to make the plarn. Please bring any plastic bags you can to this first part.

PART 2: Mat Making (April 23, 5-7 pm)

In this second part, we'll learn how to turn the plarn you created since the first workshop into sleeping mats that will be donated to our friends at Starkville Strong to give out at at their next Neighbors Helping Neighbors event.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate Crochet Skill Level Recommended

Tickets are $10 per person and allow us to purchase needed supplies and pay our lovely teacher. We'll provide the hooks that you get to keep. We'll have some plastic bags saved up, but please bring your stash to turn into the plarn.

About Your Instructor: Taylor Green

"I'm a PhD candidate at MSU in Computational Biology and really enjoy relating the things I make to the research I do. Fiber arts have been part of my life for a long time. I learned to cross stitch as a Junior Girl scout (~10) and have been practicing that and embroidery on and off since then (20 years!). My grandma taught me to crochet as a young kid, but I didn't pick up crochet as a serious hobby and expressive outlet until last year, when a series of significant losses left me in need of healthy coping skills.

I've been accepted into a couple of shows, specifically the CDAF and the SAAC Winter Showcase (and submitted to Natural Mississippi and will submit to Southern Gothic). I'm thrilled that my submission to the CDAF sold and is being loved and worn by its new owner!"
